25 Indoor Rainy Day Activities for Kids

Whenever it rains, it keeps kids inside. It becomes a real task to keep children entertained during bad weather. It is an actual challenge for the parents to keep their kids occupied during rainy days.

Rainy days can be full of fun if you engage your kids in some simple yet interesting activities. These indoor activities will not only occupy the little ones but are also full of fun and meaningful learning experiences.

1. Listen to a story

Rainy days are the perfect time to gather all the family and have a story time. Read your kids a story aloud. Try to choose the stories with significant morals.

2. Have a baking session

You can involve your kids in your cooking session and bake a delicious cake or muffins with them.

3. Listen to a podcast

Has your child ever tried to listen to podcasts? There are various educational podcasts for curious children. They are great to foster imagination, family time, improve listening skills and vocabulary and so on! 

4. Make an escape room in the house

Transform your house into an escape room by using items readily available in the house such as keys, balloons, books, locks etc. 

5. Watch a movie together

You can gather all the pillows available in the house and create a cinema in the house. Play your kids their favourite movie. Also, the newest Disney movie is always a great idea. Grab your little ones a bucket full of popcorn and let them have an enjoyable experience.

6. Work out indoors

You can have an indoor exercise session with the kids. It will not only engage them but is also beneficial for their physical health.

7. Arrange a dance party

As music is the best food for the soul. Turn on your kids favourite songs and let them have a dance party.

8. Make healthy snacks  

Kids love sweets. Make healthy snacks with them like granola bars and let them satisfy their cravings for sweets.

9. Play video games

Almost every kid these days is fond of video games. They can play video games on rainy days in their comfy blankets. But remember, excessive video games are not good for eyesight and brain function.

10. Have an art session

Provide kids with paints and let their creativity come out. Give them the freedom to draw anything they want. Always appreciate their creativity!

11. Have a fashion party

Kids love to dress up like adults. They can use their mom’s closet to have a fashion party at home. Parents can take pictures to make the party a beautiful memory.

12. Play with toys

You can just have a low-effort toy play session with your munchkins. 

13. Hide - and - seek

Children love this game, and it's also a really good exercise for the development of children.

14. Play chess

You can play chess with the kids on rainy days. If they are not experts in chess, you can make them learn via online chess tutorials.

15. Create a puppet show

You can create puppets using wool, popsicle sticks, paper etc. Design a puppet show and let the kids enjoy it.

16. Solve a puzzle

You can help your kids solve a puzzle. It will also give you an opportunity to have quality time with your little versions.

17. Play with dough

Bake the salt dough and make different ornaments. Kids love this activity as it gives them the chance to play independently.

18. Make slime

You can also make slime at home for the kids to have an indoor playing session.

19. Make kids read their favourite book

Provide kids with their favourite books and ask them to read them aloud.

20. Make an indoor camp

You can go camping with your kids on the premises of your house. Gather bed covers, pillows, and bedsheets and make small camps in your living room.

21. Design small quizzes

Have a small competition with the children. Ask them various questions and set a prize for the winner to motivate them to participate more.

22. Sensory games

There are plenty of sensory games to play indoors. For instance, playing with food or playing with kinetic sand.

23. Hidden objects

Just hide some random items such as soft toys and ask the kids to go find it. This game boosts their level of curiosity.

24. Playschool

Provide the kids with workbooks, choose a teacher and ask them to have a pretend school session.

25. Picnic time

Place the blankets on the floor in the living room and get some pillows. Bring some snacks, drinks, turn the music on and enjoy family time!
